i'm making an update. for the first time in ages.

prosaic- unimaginative, dull
latin is prosaic. People on prozac are prosaic.

harbinger- something that indicates what is to come; a forerunner
The dwindling bookings were a harbinger for Continental Airlines’ bankruptcy.

apparatus- a group of machines; equipment
The apparatus fell on Ms. Nice as she was trying to pull the window shades down.

mundane- commonplace; ordinary
homework is just too mundane for teachers, they spice it up with projects and tests.

nascent- coming into existence, emerging
present participle, singular, third declension, from nasceo

listless- lacking energy
After the grueling ½ mile run in gym, the class listlessly trudged around it to cool down.

convoluted- intricate, complex
The concept of acceleration is so convoluted that Ms. Savner tells us every day that we don’t know it.

vindicated- freed from blame
During battle of the classes last year, none of the sophomores were vindicated from the rest of the student body once it was found that a sophomore had pulled the fire alarm and was not owning up, even though he or she had ruined the day for the rest of the school.

effusive- emotionally unrestrained; gushy
Melissa is effusive in respect to every single subject.

opulent- exhibiting a display of great wealth
Laura is very opulent, which is illustrated in her numerous Louie Vatton purses.

egregious- conspicuously bad or offensive
Eminem’s song “the real slim shady” is extremely egregious to everyone from gays to Christina aguilera.

cogent- convincing, reasonable
Karen is cogent, because is so reasonable and always listens unlike ms. machovic who
has no idea wtf she's saying.

cohesive- condition of sticking together
When people mess with one of us, we’re completely cohesive and stick up for one another.

assertion- declaration or statement
When Ms. Machovic asked the class whether they understood Kohlberg’s theory after telling it that cleaning the park for both service hours and helping your little brother was selfish, she was met with a vehement negative assertion.

arbiter- judge who decides a disputed issue
The arbiter, Deacon Joe, held that Mrs. Braine was in insane woman trying to make his life miserable by catching anyone she could without a lanyard.

pundit- an authority who expresses his/ her opinions
Sr. Donna is the highest pundit in our school who is also the easiest to recognize with her hooded pothead eyes and darth vadar voice over the intercom.

jurisprudence: the science or philosophy of law
This week we are studying jurisprudence, which is evident in not only in the US constitution, but way back in even voltaire’s or machievelli’s writings.

insipid- boring
that victim’s movie shown in gym was possibly the most insipid documentary ever- or was it the Thomas more video???

torpor- lazy, inactivity, dullness
I end up doing my homework late at night even if I do come back right after school because of the torpor I find myself in with my bag of potato chips (sour cream and onion) and good television (what beats two of a kind? A FULL HOUSE!!!)

pragmatic- practical
Ms. Savner teaches physics the most pragmatic way possible: she shows us how it works in every day life where we see it, but don’t necessarily recognize it. Especially in the vf when a ball is dropped: “you say that it’s zero, how bout I drop a ball on your head.”

quandary- state of perplexity
the corral problem in math set everyone in a quandary during the test, even though Mr. Alfonzo had done it in class.

ebullience- intense enthusiasm
When we have our Christmas mass with an important pastor or guest, we feign ebullience, and somehow those suckers believe that we have “spirit.”
